december 2006

december is a busy month. not only is it christmas (and the season of crafting) but there are so many of my friends' birthdays - suzette (1st), mona (3rd), neil (4th), dr. jen (9th), lisa (13th), ricky (14th), and then at the end of the month my aunt, uncle, and stepbrother. whew!

i also had two handmade christmas ornament exchange parties. the first one was in november. the second one was on the 13th. the 13th was actually the third annual cookie exchange, which we combined with the mini ornament exchange (between my coworker gfs). unfortunately, i was THE ONLY ONE who had both her cookies and ornaments done. >=( mona wanted me to do a make and take too so i searched on the web until i found something easy that didn't take too much for me to prep. for the ornament swap i made little felt birds and for the cookie exchange i made a pink glazed butter cookie. i coordinated the recipe booklet and cookie wrapping to go with my sugary sparkling pink cookies. :) the girls said that they loved it and was going to "steal" my cookie wrapping idea. (my ornaments & cookies are pictured below).

i haven't scrapped in 3 months ... ever since someone dissed my scrapbooking. :( then a couple of weeks ago, i got the urge to try and do a LO. (maybe because i know CHA is coming up and i won't be able to justify buying more product if i don't do anything with the TONS of stuff i already have!) it's a work in process as i just took it apart but will keep the design similar to the one i did. the HS flower is w-a-y too big so i'm going to play around with it a little more with other embellishments. {the LO pic in the collage is NOT the finished LO!} i also created an altered frame project for a christmas gift using chalk inks, HS mask, and prima flowers. i liked the way it came out so went and bought a bunch more and hope to make more soon with different designs.

because i started my shopping early, i lost my christmas mojo. i went to see santa with the munchkins and got sick about a week later. then i got the stomach flu right before and through christmas. =P oh well. it could be much much worse. (at least i have an excuse as to not having everyone's presents ontime this year! ;) heehee) i hope everyone has a happy holiday season!

merry christmas

hey all ...

i just wanted to wish everyone a merry christmas! sorry i haven't posted in a while. i have lots to post about but haven't been feeling well last weekend and just got the worst stomach flu (ever!) on friday. just have enough energy to wish everyone the merriest and i'll be glad when this is over so that i can (hopefully) start 2007 right! :) i'll probably miss all the family festivities as i don't want anyone to catch this so if i'm feeling better i'll be posting what i've been up to the past couple of weeks.

take care and have a safe and happy holiday season!

goodbye inky

last night was the end of a really hard week.

inky, our family fur baby passed away. he was 15 years old and his health has been declining (for the past couple of years) but I don’t think he was ready to go yet ... we weren’t ready to let him go either. although his health was getting worse, he always seemed to be generally ok but he was really in bad shape last week. on tuesday, he walked into the pool and was too weak to try and save himself. luckily, my stepdad (inky’s favorite) was there to save him. on friday it was so windy, the winds almost blew him away. (he only weighed 5 lbs.) i think trying not to fall down was really hard on his legs because they were really swollen and he kept falling down and couldn’t walk on saturday. he went to the vet on saturday but i don’t know what happened.

early sunday morning, marla called me from work to tell me that inky really wasn’t doing well and wanted me to go to the house to see him (and check on my mom). unfortunatley, i had to work at my lss but went to my mom’s house when i was finished. my nieces were over and inky was sleeping so I let him be. the girls went home and we ordered dinner. when my stepdad came out of the bedroom (where inky was resting) to eat, marla and i went to visit him.

it was so hard for me to see him like that. he was having a hard time breathing and he looked so uncomfortable. i was scared to pet him because i didn’t want to startle him so marla and i just prayed over him and told him that we loved him. about an hour after I got home, marla called sobbing and I knew inky had passed away. although i prayed for God to take him so that he wouldn’t suffer (and so that my step dad wouldn’t have to make the decision to put him to sleep), i can’t help but miss him. i bawled for a long time last night before i went to sleep and am crying right now. poor marla - she’s been crying all night and even all day today even though she's at work.

inky was a wonderful member of our family. i can't call him a dog because he was much more than that. all fur babies are. i know some people think that they are just pets but they are our life companions who love us unconditionally. i miss him. i remember when he was young and used to bark at all the people passing by our busy street - even when i would walk up the steps. he used to do "the inky dance" when he was happy and excited. it was so cute. as he matured, he had this quiet demeanor and was so gentle and sweet. it's always hard to say good bye and even though i was able to tell inky that i loved him last night, i still miss him ... we all do. (this picture of sierra and inky was taken almost exactly one month ago.)
